Essays here show that NKT is not what it seems at first view for most of us.
At first, we see NKT clergy dressed as Tibetan monks and nuns and charismatic resident teachers. We hear peaceful Buddhist teachings. We like it. Some of us become residents and helpers. Some of us enter into advanced programs. Some of us become NKT teachers. Some of us bring our children.
Many of us do not see the real NKT. When we do, we tend to protect ourselves with denial.
Most of us who realize NKT's scandalous behavior leave NKT, sometimes voluntarily and sometimes kicked out by NKT for asking too many questions or for disagreeing with NKT's political mission to disparage Tibetan Buddhism and protest against Tibet's spiritual and political leader, the Dalai Lama, and other Buddhists. Inevitably, the bogus credentials of NKT's founder and clergy shock us and the many stories of moral misconduct inside NKT horrify us.
The dual life of NKT - swinging like a pendulum between pious and naughty - provides much fodder for news about and from NKT. Examples of sexual misconduct by heirs of NKT's founder reverberate with NKT insiders and NKT survivors.
NKT's dual life is also exemplified in less traumatic circumstances (and if the marketing is to be believed, very profitable circumstances).
Teachers at NKT's center in Thousand Oaks, California west of Los Angeles are a rather dynamic duo.
Resident Teacher Rebecca Gauthier has been practicing Buddhism for fifteen years under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. She has taught classes in Buddhist meditation in Boston, MA, Seville, Spain, and Athens, GA. Rebecca has been teaching in California for the last two and a half years.
Branch Teacher Len Foley has been practicing Buddhism for eight years. He currently teaches Monday evenings in Simi Valley.
"Buddhadharma is beneficial to others only if there are qualified Teachers. Without Teachers, Dharma texts alone are of little benefit. To become a qualified Dharma Teacher requires special preparation and training.
It is not easy to become a Dharma Teacher because special qualities are needed: wisdom, correct view, faith, conviction, and pure conduct as an example to others. Also a Teacher needs an inexhaustible reservoir of Dharma knowledge and experience to teach from, otherwise he or she will dry up after one or two years.
If a Teacher lacks qualities such as wisdom, experience, faith, and pure motivation, it will be difficult for others to develop faith in them or their teachings, and there will be little benefit. Also, without proper training and preparation there is a danger of Teachers mixing worldly, samsaric activities with their teaching activities. Therefore we definitely need to train well if we wish to be a genuine benefit to others."
In the real world (almost mimicking scandals inside the NKT world) Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley reveal their sizzling persona.
Their latest business project is a 'hot' new book, The Celibate: Sex, Lies, Salvation. (in view of the authors' positions as NKT teachers (Rebecca Gauthier is the teacher in charge of a California NKT center), wonder how much of the book was written inside NKT and what support or collaboration there was with NKT)
Visit the book's promotional web site for more, much more. (www.thecelibate.com) Watch the promotional video, follow the web links on the pages (it is difficult not to see Kelsang Gyatso's previous heirs, Samden and Thubten, in the video).
You may be shocked by the work of NKT teachers..."Combined, their commitment to celibacy spanned a decade." (an oxymoron? surely, NKT teachers discussing celibacy is oxymoronic in view of the sexual escapades of Kelsang Gyatso's previous 2 heirs)
It's astonishing to see Rebecca Gauthier marketing her NKT background and to see the authors' definition of Chapel Lizards.
"Chapel Lizards: n. 1. women who can't get enough of celibate men.*
*(The Survival Guide For The Frustrated Celibate more formally refers to these women as Collar Groupies: extremely aggressive women fighting to possess "unattainable" professed young men). Some are needy, neglected housewives searching for a little diversion from their otherwise boring lives; but mostly they are young independents: attractive viragos looking to gorge themselves on the Church's forbidden fruit."
NKT teachers Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley use fascinating inventions to sensationalize their provocative material....
Beating Masturbation: The Church's Definitive Guide
Guide for the Frustrated Celibate
About this 'book', NKT's Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley claim,
"You have stumbled upon THE definitive "secret" handbook that has been used for decades to assist struggling seminarians combatting the natural vicissitudes of a life free from sex.
Despite the fact that no Roman Catholic seminarian or priest will EVER admit to its existence, this book has been part of a "secret lineage" of teachings - behind the walls of some of the world's most exclusive seminaries.
Although this book has its origins in the Roman Catholic tradition, Guide For The Frustrated Celibate is by no means limited to to Roman Catholic clerics. Morman novices, New Adventist preachers-in-training, and students of Baptist Theology have been rumored to have read - and used - the book as well.
NOTE: This guide has never been revealed to the public in any form. Although its contents have been modified throughout the years, the spirit of the teachings remain intact."
(based on their miconduct, perhaps the book should be passed out to senior NKT clergy)
Lights dim. The audience hushes. Ladies and Gentleman. You are in for a treat. By popular demand, tonight, NKT resident teacher Rebecca Gauthier will perform 3 songs she wrote for the soundtrack for her upcoming sizzling book, The Celibate: Sex, Lies, Salvation. Click here. Rebecca Gauthier sings Half a Chance, Battle and Remedy.

Like other NKT teachers, the book's authors have Facebook pages; see Rebecca Gauthier, a second Facebook page for Rebecca Gauthier (note the Facebook friend Gen Demo, NKT resident teacher in Sarasota, FL; another of her Facebook friends is Lucy James), Len Foley (notice his mention of his involvement with the Kadampa medition center in Florida). Rebecca Gauthier (note link on bottom left to Len Foley's channel) and Len Foley also have youtube channels. The Facebook page for the NKT center in Sarasota from which Lucy James was booted lists Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley as 'fans'.

"MEDITATION CAN EXTEND YOUR LIFE Do you suffer from chronic stress, anxiety and/or insecurity? These unhealthy states of mind if left untreated can inevitably lead to an unhealthy body and even an untimely death. This is because the main cause of all mental and physical illnesses are energy imbalances in the body. Meditation helps you return to your perfectly balanced state by cultivating positive and peaceful states of mind thus reducing stress and other negative states of mind until they are eventually eradicated altogether! In fact medical studies show that meditation can reverse certain aspects of heart disease as well as reduce and eliminate physical pain. By engaging in a regular meditation practice you will live a longer, healthier life! Check it out for yourself. Begin with a simple five-minute-per-day commitment, gradually working your way up to a few more minutes each session until you’ve reached a full twenty minutes of uninterrupted meditation. You'll be surprised at how quickly you will start to look younger and feel better!"
"SIX REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD MEDITATE EVERY DAY
Reason #1: Meditation can give you an instant energy
Have you ever found yourself feeling sluggish, tired,
or easily distracted? This is because your energy is
being depleted by too many thoughts; they spin around
in your head all day and night exhausting you both
mentally and physically.
Meditation works with your subtle energy wind system
(otherwise known as chi or prana), rejuvenating your
body and clearing your mind by creating a mental space
between you and your world. This mental space will
help increase your productivity, decrease your stress,
and give you a renewed energy that will help you get
through even the toughest situations!
Reason #2: Meditation doesn't require any fancy
You need only need two things to meditate:
1. A rear-end.
2. A place to sit.
Since everyone has their own rear-end -- and most
everyone can find at least one quiet place to sit
(a parked car could be a great place to start), then
there is little reason why you can't enjoy the immense
benefits of a regular meditation practice.
Reason #3: Meditation doesn't require any
You don't have to be a Zen master living on
juniper berries in the nether regions of The
Himalayas to be able to meditate! Meditation
is a practical, efficient tool that you can use
everyday to improve your life regardless of
what religion you are, what you do for a living,
and what your level of experience is. All you
need is a genuine wish to try it and you are on

Reason #4: Meditation can extend your life.

main cause of all mental and physical illnesses are
energy imbalances in the body.

will start to look younger and feel better!
Reason #5: Meditation is easy (once you get the hang
The only reason meditation seems difficult, is because
we don't understand its benefits and have little
familiarity with how to put it into practice.
Meditation is developing internally NOT externally.
At the moment we spend much of our time and energy
trying to change our external world to make ourselves
happy. We change jobs, cars, relationships, houses,
etc… thinking that it will give us the peace and
happiness we are so desperate to experience.
Buddha taught simple breathing meditation techniques
that eventually lead to permanent states of inner peace.
These techniques are as simple as focusing on our breath
for three seconds!! All we need to do is approach it
with an open mind and with a little bit of focus and
concentration you will be surprised at how easy and
addictive meditation can be.
Remember: there is no such thing as a bad meditation!
Reason #6: Meditation will improve ALL your
Meditation will teach you how to cultivate positive
states of mind such as love, compassion, and patience.
These minds are vital in any healthy personal or
business relationship and will help you be more
generous and respectful towards others.

Rebecca Gauthier was lead singer for Batchelor Red and is involved with the health food business (after her three years of NKT nun training). From Jezibel Magazine,
"Ever wonder about the road not taken? Rebecca Gauthier, the lead singer for Bachelor Red, has no such doubts. Dropping out of University of Connecticut, this native Bostonian took off for Spain, finishing her higher education in Seville. In her three years abroad, she converted to Buddhism and was living in a monastery when her spiritual advisor asked her to move to Atlanta to start a Buddhist Center. Finding herself in the South for the first time, this classically trained vocalist from Berklee College of Music revived her music career, ditched celibacy, and hooked up with local producer Rick Beato who helped form the band in 2002."
Ditched celibacy before being hooked up with Rick Beato and becoming a NKT resident teacher.

A busy NKT teacher indeed!
A very busy dynamic duo, although they say that their "celibacy spanned a decade." (the celibacy of some NKT clergy however lasts much shorter)
Attending 'teachings' of Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley surely must be interesting...and potentially profitable. Imagine if they sell their business consulting to NKT! (watch Len Foley's video above while considering his pitching NKT as an investment club) Maybe they already have...NKT operates like a multi-level marketing scheme.
Never know what you will find behind the curtain, down the looking glass and in the make-believe world of NKT.
NKT's Dorje Shugden, Deity Extraordinaire
NKTite response to the provocative book and marketing careers of Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley has been, 'so what, there is nothing inconsistent between their writings and pyramid marketing schemes and their NKT teachings, this is a non story, there is no sexual misconduct at NKT'.
News about the connection between the book written by Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley and their teaching capacities at NKT resulted in changes to the web site promoting the book (specifying the book's authors' names has been deleted). See
Amazing to realize that Lucy James was booted as a NKT RT and Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley thrive as NKT teachers. Reveals NKT priorities for its NKT teachers! Better to peddle a provocative book about celibacy in the clergy, ridiculing women and masturbation than question Kelsang Gyatso about his political protests against the Dalai Lama.
There is harsh portrayal of women in the book from NKT's teachers reminiscent of Kelsang Gyatso's own derogatory views...
"Should you be tempted by any defilements of the female form, commit the following contemplation to memory"
A 'teaching' from NKT's Rebecca Gauthier and Len Foley. Shugdenesque, wouldn't you say?
From Their Spiritual Advisor's Book That They Market, Transform Your Life "Inside our mother's womb it is hot and dark. Our home for nine months is this small, tightly compressed space full of unclean substances. It is like being squashed inside a small water tank full of filthy liquid with the lid tightly shut so that no air or light can come through. While we are in our mother's womb we experience much pain and fear all on our own. If she has sexual intercourse it feels as if we are being crushed and suffocated between tho huge weights and we panic. When we are emerging from our mother's womb it feels as if we are being forced through a narrow crevice between two hard rocks..."
